Wivey Kitchen Launch Celebration Evening
We hosted a special evening event in the Community Centre, Wiveliscombe on Friday 8th November, to thank those that have supported our journey so far and to mark the opening of our new pantry and the move to our permanent kitchen provided by the Bear Inn. In addition to our wonderful volunteers, we were delighted to welcome representatives from the organisations, fellow charities and individuals that we have worked closely with since our founding in 2020. A special mention needs to go to local contractor BAM, based in Exeter, who sourced a commercial oven for us, which has really been a game-changer for our weekly meal production operation.
Our team of head chefs created a fabulous buffet using food donated by FareShare and our sister charity Wivey Grows; we are grateful for the donation of wine for the event by a local resident and apple juice donated by Brendon Orchards, also based in Wiveliscombe.
We are indebted to Baroness Rosie Boycott for giving the key-note address, recognising the need for support for those experiencing food or financial insecurity and the need to address issues of food waste, on a national and local basis Also, many thanks to our MP, Rachel Gilmour for coming along to support us – she emphasised the importance of local groups and charities coming together to support their communities. Lastly, we are grateful to local resident, writer, broadcaster and restaurant critic, William Sitwell who focussed on the dedication of our volunteers and the value of their commitment to their own community. We are so very grateful to all the volunteers, individual donors, local and national organisations, charities and businesses that continue to support what we do.
